Cluster Headache

Cluster headaches are a rare condition that affects less than 1% of the population. The exact cause of cluster headaches is not known, but research suggests it may be related to abnormalities in the hypothalamus. Triggers for cluster headaches include alcohol consumption, smoking, changes in sleep patterns, high altitudes, bright lights, strong smells, and glare.

Symptoms of cluster headaches include intense pain on one side of the head, burning, piercing, or throbbing pain, red or watery eyes, stuffy or runny nose, sweating on the forehead or face, and restlessness or agitation.

While there is no cure, treatment options for cluster headaches include oxygen therapy, medications such as triptans and corticosteroids, nerve blocks, and lifestyle changes such as avoiding triggers and maintaining a regular sleep schedule. It is important to speak with a healthcare provider for an individualized treatment plan.
