Alphagan eye drops are commonly prescribed to manage glaucoma and elevated intraocular pressure. Glaucoma arises when there is increased fluid pressure inside the eye.
Glaucoma often occurs due to fluid buildup within the eye, which happens when the eye fluid does not drain as quickly as it is produced. This imbalance leads to increased intraocular pressure. Continuous pressure can damage the optic nerve, potentially causing gradual vision loss.
The damage to the optic nerve usually happens so slowly that patients might not notice any vision loss until it becomes severe. Interestingly, even normal eye pressure can sometimes cause optic nerve damage.
Dosage
Instill one drop of Alphagan into the affected eye(s) three times daily, with each dose spaced about eight hours apart. If you’re using more than one topical ophthalmic medication for reducing intraocular pressure, apply them at least five minutes apart.
