Pentasa is prescribed for the treatment of ulcerative colitis in adults. It alleviates symptoms such as inflammation and rectal bleeding by reducing colon swelling and addressing inflammatory bowel disease. Pentasa belongs to the class of drugs known as aminosalicylates and is also available under its generic name, mesalamine.

Pentasa Directions of Use
Each enema bottle of Pentasa contains 1g of the medication in a 100 ml solution. The typical dosage recommendation is one enema before bedtime. This treatment is intended for rectal use only. Prior to administration, it is important to visit the toilet.
Follow these steps:
- Shake the enema bottle thoroughly before use.
- Remove the cap from the applicator tip.
- Adopt one of two positions: lie on your left side with your left leg straight and right knee bent, or assume the knee-chest position.
- Gently insert the applicator tip into your rectum.
- Slowly squeeze the enema to allow the medicine to flow.
- Stay in position for at least 30 minutes.
